In 2020 Stack Overflow made a big survey with over 65 thousand developers about the situation in the IT sector. This report has shown one interesting chart of how each technology is connected with others which can also be interesting for CTOs, tech startup founders, tech PMs who are looking for software developers and considering the best tech stack for their product.

From this chart, we can see which technologies are rare and which are a part of some big clusters. This statistic can help you in hiring engineers with specific skills or in choosing what to use in the project.

The biggest dots belong to HTML/CSS. JavaScript is also not far from there, as most developers begin their coding road with these technologies. Three branches of JavaScript are its frameworks–ReactJS, AngularJS, and NodeJS. ReactJS and AngularJS are used for SPAs, while NodeJS allows the creation of comprehensive real-time applications.

Another widely used technology is PHP, at the end of which branch locates VueJS. This technology is for back-end development, but knowledge of them and some databases allow the engineer to be a full-stack developer.

One more big cluster is created around the Python programming language along with Django, Flask, Pandas, etc. It is a very popular cluster that leads to an increased number of developers with this expertise.

Kotlin and Java are widely used among Android developers. This platform creates the whole cluster as well as iOS.

We have decided to check developers’ hourly rates with these technologies in YouTeam. There are more than 20,000 developers available in about 400+ development agencies from Latin America and Eastern Europe.

As it is seen, the average minimum and maximum rates are $44 and $67. From this chart, it is obvious that the more rare technology is, the higher its rate is. Another reason is that developers with rare technologies are hard to find. In addition, the reason for such rates is the time and efforts developers put into learning those technologies.

Moreover, if looking through the chart, it is clear that full-stack devs are not always expensive to hire.

If you’re interested in other developer rates or you want to find out how to engage engineers to the project, read our blog.
